Wesley Weekly #9: Before and Rapture

It’s a sneaky pun, but it’s there.

Welcome back to Wesley Weekly! What wacky, wonderful, weekend activities did you partake in? Let us know in the comments!

What You May Have Missed…

Last week during our Thursday meeting, we wrapped up our discussion on the different eschatological views that exist in certain groups and why they might hold those views. We also discussed how these views impacted the lives of those who believed in them.

We now have a Patreon account! This is a way we can collect donations and show our donors our appreciation through different rewards. If you would like to donate, please visit our Patreon!

This Week

This week, we’ll be segueing from the different perspectives on the when the end is coming to what different groups think that the rapture will be like. If you’re interested in joining us, send us a message to get the link to the Zoom call!

Prayers and Concerns

We continue to wish for the best of all of our students during this difficult time. Please, don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you need or want support.

Keep Pastor Tom Fox in your thoughts, he is having surgery this week.

If there is anything you would like the community to pray for, send us a message, or reach out to us on our social media pages.

Student Thoughts

In lieu of a student writing piece, this week I posed another odd question to our group.

Q: Can aliens be Christians?

It was brought to my attention that aliens could be referring to immigrants. To clarify, the question is about extraterrestrial beings.

A: “Yes.”

A: “I think they could, but whether or not they would want to could go either way. I think we would have to compare what they may believe and what we believe. I would be surprised if they didn’t already have a religion. Lots of stories, especially creation ones, are created due to a need to explain things like the sun and moon rising and setting or the seasons changing. I would find it difficult to believe if they didn’t have any sort of stories they believed were caused by something beyond them.”

A: “Maybe. We could probably convert some of them, but I don’t know if they’d already believe in a god and if it’d be the same one we believe in. I feel like encountering an alien species and them not having a religion would kinda be devastating for a majority of earth. I know I’d be pretty bummed out.”

A: “Yes, but they would have different customs surrounding their faith than Christian Earthlings do. For instance, a cross would probably mean nothing to them.”

A: “I don’t see why extraterrestrials can’t be Christians.”

A: “Sure, why not? A Christian is ultimately a follower of Christ, which is a faith-based assertion to devote and live by the teachings of Christ through the Holy Spirit. An alien arriving on earth could absolutely hear about the nature of love and grace in Christ and make the same faith-based commitment. Interesting question though, there are Christian groups who might say no simply based on the fact that the alien isn’t human.”

If you have something you would like to write for us, or interesting questions you would like to ask us, send us a message on any of our social media or on our contacts page!
